Good dental hygiene should start even before your child’s first tooth comes out.
7 Tips for Healthier Teeth for Kids
1. Practice eating healthy foods. To reduce the risk of tooth decay, avoid eating food with excessive amount of sugar. Foods with high sugar content can cause cavities.
2. Drink healthy beverages. Kids should practice drinking at least eight glasses of water a day. Kids should also limit or better yet avoid soft drinks and other drinks which have high sugar content.
3. Do brush your teeth at least twice daily. It is important for kids to clean their teeth with a mild and careful brushing technique with the use of soft tooth brush and fluoride toothpaste. Regular brushing will lessen plaque formation and cavities and will help keep healthy teeth and gums.
4. Learn to adopt a daily flossing routine. With adult’s supervision, kids should practice flossing between their teeth everyday to remove food debris and plaque that are hidden in between the teeth where their toothbrush may not be able to reach.
5. Have a regular dental check up. It is recommended for kids from age three to visit the dentist every six months. At an early age, they will learn to give importance to proper dental care and practice good oral hygiene.
6. When playing a sport, wear a mouth guard. Playing safe in all sports by protecting kid’s teeth by using a custom-made mouth guard. It should also be worn during training or practices to lessen the risk of dental injuries.
7. Dental education. Kids should have knowledge in dental education. We should be able to teach them the importance of oral hygiene and dental health.
